Healthy Ireland Smart Start
“Buttercup Childcare” has been successful in achieving the 2022 Healthy Ireland Award (HI). The “Healthy Ireland” health promotion is a programme led by the HSE in partnership with the National Childhood Network to ensure children in preschool settings are supported to adopt a healthy lifestyle in early childhood. The programme reflects the aim of The Healthy Ireland Framework, to bring all people together with a single aim to ensure the best possible health and wellbeing of our nation.
Last year we incorporated the 5 units of the programme into our everyday experience in the service. Documenting it on our theme and supporting children with a healthier option, emotional support, enhanced physical activity, unbroken nutritional choices and oral health awareness. We set this bar not only in our preschool session, but throughout our whole service including afterschool children receiving the benefits.
We continue today with these new improved practices as we look forward to a healthier future for all. We would like to thank you the parents for the healthy lunch boxes you continue to provide. I would like to thank all the team in Buttercup Childcare for their outstanding hard work and enduring with the procedures and continue to do it today seeing a massive improvement in the health and wellbeing of the children and families attending our service having a positive impact on children’s lifestyles and behaviours.

We couldn’t be happier with our experience at this preschool. From the very beginning, the staff have been welcoming, kind, and supportive, creating a safe and nurturing environment for the children.My son has thoroughly enjoyed his time here and has developed so much, both socially and emotionally. The teachers are patient, encouraging, and genuinely care about each child’s growth and happiness. It’s wonderful to see how excited he is to go in each day and to hear about all the fun and educational activities he takes part in.
I use buttercups breakfast club and after school services and camps during midterms. The service is excellent and the staff are amazing. The activities are tailored for all ages. They collect the kids from school and drop them to school if using the breakfast club. The Halloween camp was full of activity and the kids love it. Thank you all.
my little boy Kayden has been attending buttercups for nearly 2 years , he has really enjoyed his time there and has grown so much in confidence and made so many friends. He made a great connection with all the staff. He has learnt many new skills and has become more independent and sociable. I would highly recommend buttercups as the staff are very caring and dedicated to each child's development. Thank you so much to the staff at buttercups for making Kayden's introduction to schooling such an enjoyable experience as this will help make his transition to primary school easier.
Thank you so much to everyone at Buttercups for an amazing Easter camp. The 3 Frahers came out asking when is the next camp. They did so much over the 3 days and came out with something everyday. Lots of fun and activities were done daily. Every morning they got a warm welcome going in and we’ll def be signing up for the next camp. Thanks for everything, Jack, Jamie & Hannah Fraher.
My little boy Dalen is nearly finished his 2 years with Buttercup. We had a bit of difficulty at the start getting him to go in at morning time, he cried a lot but with all the lovely teachers patience and care he started going in no bother at all and really enjoys his days. All the girls are so nice there and are so good with him and just try to make him happy and comfortable and give that extra bit of help and attention which I appreciate. My little girl is there now and again loving her time there and enjoying every minute of all the fun.
